A read from another system

Filtration for 1,000 lb of tilapia.

Two thousand gallons at half a pound per gallon. The steward needs filtration sizing — and gets biomass arithmetic before equipment: feed per day first, hardware second.

Tilapia 2000gal tank need filtration sizing .5 lb per gallon density

STOMEL

Tilapia in 2000 gal at 0.5 lb/gal = 1000 lb biomass target. RAS biofilter needs roughly 40–60 square feet of fixed-film media surface area per lb of feed per day. Assume 1.5–2% bodyweight daily feed at that density: 15–20 lb feed/day. Sizing therefore calls for 600–1200 square feet of media. Mechanical filtration rated for 2000–3000 gph with fine solids capture. Aeration must hold 6–8 mg/L dissolved oxygen at 82–86°F. Confirm daily feed rate you expect and whether this is grow-out or broodstock.

Excellent

STOMEL

RAS parameters locked for 1000 lb tilapia in 2000 gal. Next critical: solids settling or drum filter rating, and aeration demand at peak feed. What are you planning there.
